Maybe he was upset because he wasn't included among the list of honorees. The Kennedy Center Honors are rigged !! ;)

It's unprecedented. Did you see what the Center said in their acknowledgment?

“In choosing not to participate in this year's Honors activities, the Administration has graciously signaled its respect for the Kennedy Center and ensures the Honors gala remains a deservingly special moment for the Honorees,” the statement read. “We are grateful for this gesture.”
The Kennedy Center is grateful a prez of the USA is not attending the honors awards.

It's shocking. I am not as jaded as your post makes you sound.

Well it is a big deal.

Trump has behaved in a way that a makes an national arts center not even want him to attend (because honorees were dropping out, because no one was sure what the ones who didn't drop out might say if he showed up).

This is not an organization being snippy to a prez whose views don't align politically in general with their views. This is an outfit feeling unsure of keeping an annual gig in a public venue on the rails -- just because of the reaction of the public to that President's handling of a domestic terror incident.

So they're saying thanks for letting us off the hook, so glad you can't make it. To the President of the USA? To me that's a huge deal and really embarrassing.

Maybe we should get used to it. We are becoming a laughingstock behind this guy.

Some are saying that Trump wanted to go, until he found out that the Dogs Playing Poker series would not be on display.

Disappointed, he decided to stay home and pay homage to the arts by playing with gold glitter and painting by numbers.

    Indeed it is.

These kind of events are in my mind above politics.

This is where the President acts as Head of State of the USA. There to celebrate the cultural achievements of fellow Americans.

For Trump not to attend shows either that he knows he will be unwelcome or that he is a cultural philistine.

    Or both?;)

Liberals don't like Trump so why would we be surprised he doesn't want to attend something that's saturated with liberals.

These people are spineless, he already denounced all KKK and neo Nazis. There's nothing really left here.

Recipients of this year's Kennedy Center Honors Awards: Carmen de Lavallade, Gloria Estefan, LL Cool J, Norman Lear, and Lionel Richie.

Earlier, Norman Lear announced that he would accept the honors, but would boycott the White House ceremony because of his opposition to President Donald Trump, citing Trump's proposal to end the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Now that President Trump has announced he is no longer participating in the ceremony, Lear has yet to indicate whether or not he will attend.

LOL, LL Cool J's contribution to the "Arts".

Trump was so there, until Sir Mix A Lot was snubbed.

And your contributions to the arts include what exactly?

I thought that I heard him laughing
I thought that I heard him sing
I think I thought I saw him try

You can't really judge art. People have different tastes. And that's OK.

No, it's OK, just stuck me as funny. His contributions to popular culture should qualify him.

Rather it had been Kendrick Lamar or Eminem to be honest.

Only when when you want him to show up, otherwise it's "not my president"

Something to keep in mind: The Kennedy Center does allow the public to nominate individuals via its Web site.

Personally I have enjoyed watching the Kennedy Center Honors. Some of the greatest have been honored.

    Who could forget:

Anyone who thinks this is no big deal - to a degree, you're right. This won't affect people, increase jobs, decrease debt, etc. However - it's breaking a long tradition of the President to be in attendance. Little things like this add up to a greater issue. If you don't see that - then by all means, keep your head in the sand.
