No. you'll be free to not buy insurance, just as you were before Obamacare.

    You may now commence cheering.

I'm for getting government out of health insurance. While I am wish-listing retirement too.

    No.

But if you subsequently DO decide to buy insurance, after being uninsured for a period of two months or more, the Insurance company can charge you an extra 30% for the first year of coverage. And without the ACA subsidies, that's likely to be pretty expensive for most people.

No. There's a 30% charge if you're without insurance for 30-60 days (I forget) and then try to re-enter the insurance market.

So bear in mind that rates are already going up, in some cases the increase maybe over $1000. Now add that 30% fee on top of the grand total, and you understand why some find that a bit unfeasible. But hey, least the rich ( 1%) are getting double that in tax breaks. You don't want to know how much the .01% are getting.

It's probably worse. Because before you'd probably have to wait years for the government to notice and fine you.

Blame Obama and the rest of the Democrats, they destroyed it.

With the "tax penalty" you could make it so you even out with the IRS and they wouldn't have came after you because there was no enforcement of not paying the penalty.

I really don't know much about the new plan as I haven't had time to read it but weren't premiums going up already under Obamacare? For some fairly substantially? So, is it possibly a different demographic that sees the rise now than before?

Rates have been sky rocketing since Obamacare™ became law. Government doesn't belong in insurance.

What does even out mean? If you pay it with your tax return you're still paying it.

30% ONLY comes into play IF YOU decide not to have coverage, so I don't see the problem, YOU get to make the CHOICE that suits YOU . before it was pay for insurance OR ELSE get a fine.

There's people who play the deductions/dependents so that at the end of the year they owe 0 from income and they get 0 return. If you chose not to have insurance the IRS penalized you, but there was no enforcement arm to come get that money.

Rates were already raising uncomfortably before Romneycare/Obamacare/ACA. The hope was to slow or steady the increase. Now the increase will be even more dramatic, combined with a 30% fee if you don't pay for that increased rate.
Basically insurers will be allowed to raise rates as they see fit, and if you can't pay, penalize you when you eventually do need it.

Rates have been skyrocketing since BEFORE the ACA.

It's just once the ACA was enacted, the health plans had a scapegoat to blame for the increases and their record breaking profits.
