Just so I am not accused of always crapping on everything Trump, this list his team has made is actually very good. I hope they can help with all the listed projects.

    Story:
    http://www.mcclatchydc.com/news/politics-government/white-house/article128492164.html

    The actual list:
    https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/3409546-Emergency-NatSec50Projects-121416-1-Reduced.html

It's a bit disingenuous to call these "national security" but whatever gets it done.

He hopes to get $138million, and 50% private investment. I think that is unrealistic - there projects would likely end up costing at least double that, if not more. Also, private investment only happens when the investor can get a return, and I don't think saddling these roads, bridges, and tunnels with high-cost tolls is going to be very popular.

Still, if Trump's attention gets these things built, good for everyone.

I will never judge you for always crapping on Trump. When it comes to Trump, there's always a lot to crap on.

I don't know - some if it sounds like he basically wants to sell programs to corporations.

Adding in the 2 oil pipelines to that list is a nice rounding out of beneficial infrastructure projects . Rock On Mr President.

Considering how neglected it is, any infrastructure repair is a welcome relief.

I'm fine with them so long as they're setup and budgeted properly to pay for the continued maintenance of the infrastructure, and don't end up serving to just pay off the interest of the huge loan the government had to take out in order to build said infrastructure in the first place.

thing is we pay taxes AND then STILL pay toll roads, it's pretty stupid HERE to have 5 congested lanes and have ONE OR TWO express lanes where you pay a toll, if those TWO lanes were OPEN there would be no freaking back ups like the ones we get here.

I was, until I drove from Chicago to Philly on the Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania turnpikes. Very nice roads, super convenient, and not all that expensive. I actually don't mind the idea now!

It amazes me how we're not able to develop the technology to solve this problem of still having to slow down to pay tolls.

Added value in the tolls ... it's all good.

We definitely need infrastructure projects but yeah, that expenditure number is too low and cost will be higher. But this is the one area that I am looking forward to seeing what the Trump administration can do on.

In Canada, the socialist governments have always talked the big talk about infrastructure spending ... constantly adding on additional fees and taxes, always claiming the money is dedicated to infrastructure but alas they take the money into general revenue, squander it on miscellaneous vote-buying, non-accountable programs, and the infrastructure continues to rot.

We do have that technology. Don't have to slow down at all on the toll roads around me. In fact that is the only way to pay now as they got rid of all cash paying booths (and employees) about two years ago. You just drive right through.

Old way (start of ripping the booths out):

New way..just breeze right through at highway speeds:

I agree. His numbers are completely unrealistic (what else is new though, Trump doesn't know how to count), but this list of priority projects is nice.

Agreed. The worst are the new express lanes in Colorado where the price changes based on time of day and demand. It can cost like $20 or more to go just a few exits during rush hour, it's crazy. And it's not like the profits are used to build more roads, instead they just go into a private investor's McMansion.

I would've preferred the liberals try and balance the budget tbh, but you using the term socialist in this context talking about infrastructure doesn't make a whole lot of sense because a lot of Canadian infrastructure does actually suck and is a real problem.

case in point: these americans posting above us are saying they have toll booths from the future where they don't even have to slow down.

also there's major canadian cities that don't even have bus lanes... like I don't even....

they vary here as well. it's BS. just open the lanes to EVERYONE and there will be less traffic as a result.

Gateway tunnel and 2nd ave subway (the whole thing not just the few stops they have now) are long overdue and needed. As long as we can somehow pay, I say build, build, build!

I'm allergic to toll roads, thankfully they are not nearly as common in California as they were in other states I've lived. DC area was the worst followed closely by Florida with their BS tolls.

Toll roads are useless unless they are the only option. Otherwise they don't work as intended. The 73 is probably the best Southern California example.

Isn't the gateway project the whole thing Chris Christie shot down and used the money for other things? Perhaps that is a reason why he isn't too popular with Trump.

Or congestion is so bad that people will pay for an alternative like the center lanes in the middle of the 91.

CC did cancel the project but I'm not sure about the money. I know he used federal funds to rebuild the skyway claiming it was a direct route to the Lincoln tunnel which is complete ******** but I don't know if that was the same money.
