I would force people on welfare to do these jobs.

SNL writers are on hiatus. SNL writers already have jobs. And last I checked, meme creators on the internet aren't paid. Unless you're suggesting Trump paid that guy to create the CNN meme.

I don't think the GOP members of congress would want those jobs ;)

Probably not qualified either. All they do is talk.

Well, technically if 45 hires them they have to be 'good' people. The 'best'. No matter who they are.

Wow! Fan of conscription are we? The country has changed since 45 took office.

Now here's where I agree (a bit) with Dearthnvader. "Force" isn't the word I would use. But I do think there is merit for people who can't find work to be trained or be "employed" by the government to work in order to receive their benefits. They should still be given any/all time needed to interview for other jobs. But the studies have shown that many of those out of work and collecting benefits (or who have expired) WANT to work - and gain great self esteem from working.Perhaps make it voluntary. I would still predict a decent % would welcome the opportunity to work - especially if it would lead to full time employment.

I've been an advocate for bringing something like the Civilian Conservation Corps(CCC) back for a long time. My grandfather worked with the CCC during the great depression.

Thanks for mentioning that. I wasn't aware of the program and just (for now) read up on it on Wikipedia. Looking forward to reading more on it.

I agree. Especially when we see how bad our roads are, the amount of litter/garbage around, etc. All these "clean up" projects are behind schedule and lack man power/finances. The labor force is there - and like I said most want to work. I know there are people who abuse the system or are lazy. But most aren't. A program like the CCC, I think, is in alignment of what I've always said should exist now (and for the past 10 or so years).

If you don't pay people for this compulsory work, then it's basically slavery with a socialist flare. If you do pay them a fair wage for their work, then (1) where do you get the money, and (2) why is it any better than just paying professionals in the industry to do it?

The amount of infrastructure work that is needed will need more than the current crop of professionals in the industry.

Correct. For the project to make sense, the following has to be true:

Workers Needed For All Infrastructure Projects < Professions In The Industry + ( All 18 Year Olds * Amateur Inefficiency Factor )

Where the amateur inefficiency factor is the inverse ratio of how many amateur 18 year olds it takes to accomplish the same amount of work as can be done by one professional. For example, if it takes 2 amateur 18 year olds to accomplish the same thing one professional can do in an hour, then the factor is 0.5.
