As ridiculous as the TSA's reaction, and their insistance that the purse was a 'federal offense' was, I would not bring that purse on a plane, expressly to avoid this kind of situation.

It's crazy that having a gun imitation as part of a purse design can be considered a federal offense in the USA, but I do understand that she had to check it in or turn it over. Objects which resemble guns are banned for a reason - you don't need a real gun to hijack an airplane.

Right, you only need to cut along the dotted lines to have a replica "gun".

Oh, wait, that requires scissors doesn't it?

    Never mind.

    TSA reaction: Idiotic, but predictable.
Traveler behavior: Idiotic for failing to predict TSA reaction.

Anybody consider what that incredibly tasteful and in no way tacky fashion accessory is going to look like on an x-ray screen? It's like it was designed especially for people who are itching to write a blog post pointing out what everybody already knows about how stupid the TSA is.

Small scissors with a cutting edge less than four inches (10 cm) are allowed in the cabin. Pointed tips have to be in checked luggage.

Scissor's shaped like guns are on a case by case basis.
