While iPhone 6s and 6s Plus users can share Live Photos with each other through services like iMessage, the hybrid image / video can't be easily shared to social networks. Today, Tumblr updated its iOS app with Live Photos support, making it the first major social network to do so.

As TechCrunch notes, Tumblr users tend to upload, share, and re-share GIFs and other kinds of animated images, including memes, at a rapid rate, likely making Tumblr the first place where Live Photos would be widely seen and viewed.

The app was also updated with 3D Touch support. Now, users can press down on the app's icon to search the service from their home screen, activate Live Photos, and peek and pop into other users' Tumblrs by clicking on their name or avatar. While Tumblr does support Live Photos, they're only viewable within its iOS app. Other updates to the Tumblr app include the ability to send a post to any Tumblr user and messaging.

Tumblr for iOS is available in the App Store for free. [Direct Link]

Lol... I can't imagine how this will change interesting subcategories. Tumblr is basically a wasteland, now, anyways. Ello is where it's at for all things beautiful.

I laugh even more now at the people who mocked Live Photos as "just animated GIFs". Last time I checked, you couldn't make a 12-megapixel true-color animated photo and GIF with the press of one button.
You could with APNG. Well, not "at a push of a button". But it exists, even though browser support for that is niche, at best.

They were not mocking the quality of the image produced.

Up, up in my studio, studio
They are also the first major social network to support hardcore porn, so this makes sense
Tumblr, what a cesspit that site is. If 4chan is the urinals of the net, tumblr and their sanctimonious activists would be the commode.

Yeah, Tumblr (or significant sections thereof) is Rule 34 writ large, pretty much.

Actually same thing can be said about Internet as a whole.
No, not really. The hipster douche holier than thou brigade have really sank to new depths of late, and tumblr seems to mass produce douches by the dozen. Furthermore, don't get me started about the current fads of 'safe places' whilst simultaneously bullying + harassing those that venture outside the echo chamber.
I am told the kewl kids hang around gawker these days, and what tripe that site is. I have seen more objectivity and balanced arguments amongst toddlers.
For tech, I'm quite content with MR, apple insider, and anadtech. For news I like to read the guardian.

I would gladly triple my contributor fee if MR became a safe space from the tumblr (turd) tots.

I would not compare those websites to tumblr. tumblr is just a tool, a neutral, censorship free publishing platform and that's really great to have at least one such platform. You post what you like and subscribe to what you like and ignore the rest.

I don't know about douches you mention, never questioned myself where they are coming from, but I don't think it's tumblr to blame.
