iPod touch Turning off iPod via Onscreen slider

So does one turn off the iPod via the onscreen slider..... is that the same as just pressing the on/off button???

It seems when you turn off via the slider onscreen it has to start up so there is a difference......

There is a difference, and its critical while jailbreaking.

Push and hold sleep to turn it off right. Sliding = You did it right.

That's not an "on/off" button, it's the sleep/wake button. Sleep allows you to listen to music whilst the screen is turned off (pretty much standby) but turning it off will, turn it off.
