I got a new Apple Watch Series 6, Graphite. I unpaired the old watch. It is no longer listed in my devices. Yet, when I go to Security and Privacy on my iMac, both watches are listed. I can check the correct watch and it unlocks my iMac. However I would like to remove the the former watch from the list. Series 5, sent back for trade in.

is there anything I can do or is this a bug?

Thanks.

How do I remove the old watch from my iCloud account? I think it had been. How do I check?

Can anyone help? Under Security and Privacy, I have two Apple watches listed, that the system thinks can unlock my Mac, my current watch abd one I traded in, hwhen I only have one watch. Only one watch shows up in my list of devices. I don’t have two watches. How do I remove the other watch?

I had the same issue, both my old and new Watch showed up. And als a bonus, unlocking the MacBook did no longer worked. When I followed the steps in the first post, all was solved and the old watch did not show up again.

Had this exact issue, 2 Apple Watches showing up, 1 was current, the other was an old watch that was unpaired and removed from iCloud device listing....just spent some time with Apple Support and the solution that worked right away was to simply change my iCloud password from the Mac. Immediately the old watch was no longer listed.

Two watches were showing up in Security & Privacy when I tried to set up my MacBook Pro M1 to unlock with my new Apple Watch 7. But no matter what I did, I couldn't get it to work. I found where someone simply changed their iCloud password and the extra watch was removed (it was never in their Apple devices). So I tried this and the extra watch was gone. Then I tried again to enable Unlock with Apple Watch and it failed but I immediately attempted again and it worked.

I'm posting this in it's own thread because I've seen suggestions to look for "Auto unlock" and "Autounlock" files in Keychain Access and removing them and some other files, which worked for some but not for others. It didn't work for me. This reset password trick may work for others.

This is what worked for me! Thanks for sharing, Doug! Nothing else worked until I saw your post.

Change your iCloud password. I don't know why this works but it does!

Same problem upgrading from my old Series 4 to my Midnight Series 8. Two checkboxes in "Security & Privacy" with the same message "Allow Apple Watch to unlock this Mac", neither worked. Same solution: change AppleId password, wait a few minutes and the two checkboxes disappear, then the one watch to rule them all shows up with the new message "Use your Apple Watch to unlock apps and your Mac". Click the checkbox, authenticate as requested, and your shiny new watch unlocks your mac (and apps, I guess).
