I'm slightly puzzled why the SE is overpriced by £80 in the UK. They're charging £359 for the UK model - despite $399 only translating to £279 today (GBP has taken a bit hit lately too). Which is ironic because this is Apple's budget handset - and £80 here is the price gap between a mid-ranking Android, and a top end one.

If one were to get a friend to bring a sim-free version over from the States, would the warranty still be international, and would the network work?

You have forgot about VAT. The US price is listed without sales tax which is applied at point of sale but ours include the 20% tax.

We still pay a bit extra but not as much as your figures suggest.

considering the US got something cute like 8 to 9 % of tax it would be around 305 pounds but yea SUCKS.

oh and it could be worse ... in Euro it is about 390 pounds (Germany) to 400 pounds in Italy

Different countries in the Eurozone show variations in pricing.

Netherlands
16GB: €489
64GB: €489

Italy
16GB: €509
64GB: €609

Portugal
16GB: €499
64GB: €599

Austria
16GB: €479
64GB: €579

Clearly there is more than just currency conversion rates influencing the price. I'd imagine that extra are taxes being added along the way.

Vat and import taxes are to account for a large part of the difference.

Anyone who's bought electronics in the states/abroad and get it imported into the UK is expensive!

The prices don't surprise me, but will still challenge people looking at the Nexus/Samsung phones etc.

Stupid question.

But if u just buy 1-2 from the USA and bring it back and not declare it. Chances are they won't catch you?
