I was looking at my Photobucket stats and saw that one of the photos I posted here in the now-infamous Gun Collection Pictures thread made it into another Mac forum. I was curious so I found the thread in question.

It was pretty amusing. Some of the posters totally broad-brushed the MR forum and it's members as a whole due to the content of this single thread. They must have missed the hundreds upon hundreds of pages of PRSI threads where we argued about firearms. :D

Always interesting to see things from an outside perspective.

I live in the U.S. and the Gun Collection Pictures thread strikes me in a similar way. Sorry, just being honest. (And I'm not someone without any firearms experience.)

Ha ha! I love how several people say that if they lived in the US, they'd own a gun because other people would. In other words, gun ownership for self-protection is needed because we sell guns. Talk about falling down the rabbit hole! :p

I'm certainly not trying to take a stance on it here (again we have plenty of those threads), simply observing the way we are being observed. ;)

I always thought there was a pretty good representation of people from outside the US on these forums, and in particular a large UK contingent. But I suppose this serves to remind me that Mac Rumors still has large American roots.

Well they are idiots IMO, it is only those down south and in the country away from other people that are red necks :p

Personally I don't think the firearms thread has a place on MR.
When I first started lurking on MR and for several years after I joined, I was only involved in Mac and Apple-related stuff here. It was only after several years that I started reading and then getting involved in other topics in the forum. Arn & Co. certainly could restrict the topics much more than is currently done.

I like the off-topic stuff, I think it makes this forum more of a community. Most forums have an off-topic section - but MR has a pretty large and diverse one.

I took a look at the thread you linked to your Lordship, and saw the picture below. In all honesty, I don't really know why anyone would want to own one of these things, let alone have it in their home...

Evidence shows that the English are just a bunch of poncified twits. (This holds true for the English, not so much for the berzerk Scots, wussy Welsh or addled Irish.

(You can find this broad brush in your Photoshop tools palette.)

I could've taken offense to your characterization of the English...until that last line made me crack up. :p

I love MacFormat and this is by far one of the funniest things I ever actually read. *snicker*

Off-topic stuff isn't necessary, but when it does exist it should not be allowed to remain only through total consensus...there are plenty of topics I regularly ignore. We pick and choose what we want to participate in.

We wouldn't want it any other way. Remember, if it weren't for us you'd all be speaking French, or Spanish, or Navajo, or something.
At least you didn't bequeath us all Scouser accents. :D
