I can't wait for the day when things like this aren't considered news...but for now we'll take what we can get. It looks like it's shaping up to be a banner year in the fight for equal rights.

As much as I hate to say it- this is nothing more than symbolic. :(

They should try to push harder on the domestic side.

What do you mean?! We're getting a report!

Though it is nice to send a big 'FU' to a lot of the African and Middle Eastern nations.

The UN has been insignificant for a long time. This makes it even more so. The US doesn't even abide by it.

I'm sure New Yorkers have had it up to here with them as well.

Let them set-up camp somewhere else in the World. Perhaps the Hague?

But does the U.S. "require" them to be in the States, as some sort of homage??

    Discuss. ;)

Are you saying that symbols don't matter?

I think it's hugely important. No, it doesn't stop violence against gays but as creaky and staid as the UN is, such a step makes all the difference because it lays the groundwork for future discussion. Those who voted no will continue to vote no for a long time in the future, but those who abstained, well, there's hope for them.

The UN is all about consensus, and consensus is never about fashion, rather about sustainability.

I agree. Does it change much today? Probably not. But all great journeys start with one step...and at least it's been acknowledged. There's a lot of work to do, but it's a positive step at least.

Ugh- I'm just so tired of the fight, ya know? It gets so frustrating. Why does it have to be so damn difficult just to get people to treat each other decently?

I agree. It just seems so stupid. Why must we pick a new minority every decade and then go through the painful process of learning that they need to be respected and treated equally just like everyone else.

Can't we all learn as humans, this one lesson - once!? Why not even one generation? Our parents grew up with a clear understanding of why you don't discriminate based on skin color, and now all of a sudden those same children have to re-learn and re-decide that they shouldn't discriminate based on another human aspect?

    Its despicable.

The US is backing a policy against discrimination and persecution of LGBT people?

Oh, wait... this doesn't apply domestically... I see.

One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?

Did you guess which thing was not like the others?
Did you guess which thing just doesn't belong?
If you guessed this one is not like the others,
    Then you're absolutely...right!

All humans deserve to be treated with dignity, but that's stupid hateful religion speaking
