I need help to figure out what I’m doing wrong as I’m trying to get pics/video off a Canon EOS t6i and transferred onto my brand new MacBook Pro. I’ve purchased a USB camera cable, a RayCue SD card reader - neither items work. The CD-ROM that came w/ the camera is too old for my Mac. I called Canon camera C/S and the guy told me the Software & Driver for that camera is not compatible with my OS Monterey. I just started this new job and they have video on this camera that they want made into a promo. Can someone please help me?!?! And fyi, I’m not tech/IT savvy at all! I’m a creative person - story teller/gfx designer! :) Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank You!!!

SD Card: I am surprised you can't view the SD card when connected via your SD card reader. That should be quite independent of the Canon software. Does macOS mount the SD card? It should appear in Finder. If you can't see it in Finder, how about Disk Utility?

EOS utility: Whilst the original software is not compatible, you can download and install from https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/eos-rebel-t6i

The first thing I'd do is check if the SD card is appearing in Finder or Disk Utility as suggested.

You also can try using a cloud-based service like Google Drive or Dropbox. Upload the photos/videos from the camera to the cloud using a different computer (if available), and then download them to your Mac. That will take longer but it can work.

Additionally, you might want to check out Image Capture, this built-in app on your Mac. Connect your camera to your Mac using the USB cable, open Image Capture, and you should be able to import your photos/videos directly.

There are quite a few suggestions but I hope that at least something helps!

Can you tell us WHICH Mac you have and WHAT YEAR it was made?
Can you tell us WHICH VERSION of the OS you're using?

Did you do this (regarding the SD card reader)?
a. Click on the desktop to make the finder active
b. Go to the menu bar Finder --> Preferences (it's called "settings" on new Macs)
c. Put a checkmark into "hard disks", "external disks", etc.
???

Otherwise connected devices may not show up.

ALSO -- be aware that the newest Macs and OS have an option that requests permission before connecting some USB devices. I'm not using Ventura, I'm not sure exactly where this "choice" is set. Hopefully someone else reading this will point it out.

Also, try this:
Put the SD card into the reader, plug the reader into the Mac.
Open Disk Utility (in the utilities folder)
Go to the "view" menu and choose "show all devices".
(If there isn't a view menu, don't worry about that).
Now, don't click anything, just take a look at "the list on the left".
Do you see the card reader and card there?
