Hi,
Earlier today my macbook pro (15" 2.6g early 2008) was acting funny with occasional lockups and now when I boot, it chimes then shows a globe and then a folder with a question mark. If I hold down option to select the startup disk, nothing shows up at all. (i tried zapping pram too)

I am in a major bind as I am on 'vacation' (and far away from any apple/computer shops) but needed a bunch of work files on there. I have a family member's netbook with windows XP and a flash drive and created a usb flash drive with damn small linux on it.

The USB boots fine here on the netbook but it doesn't show up on my mac, same thing when holding option, nothing appears.

Does anyone know why this is happening? I'm suspecting it has something to do with the way the usb drive is formatted (fat32) but i have no idea how i could make it gpt from windows. I just need to be able to create some kind of bootable utility and hopefully be able to mount the drive or see what's going on in any way with my mac.

Any ideas whatsoever would be really greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot!
