Hey there, I went to JB my legally unlocked (purchased in Italy) Iphone 3G and it didn't work. At the end of the guide on IClarified I saw a small note saying they can't do it on the new MBP's, cause they don't handle DFU mode... Anyone successfully JB with a new unibody MBP? I guess its going from stock to 2.2, and unfortunatly I went back to 2.2 stock when it came out a few days ago to try it out...

Also I'm pretty sure this wont' affect my unlocked phone as I JB'd 2.1 and it was fine, but just wanted to know if anyone had any experience with this?

    Thanks

Unfortunately, yes, its true. New MacBooks and MacBook Pros do not detect an iPhone in DFU (DFU is the way we install our custom .ipsw). They can however use Pwnage and install new custom firmware on an already pwned device.

tl;dr - New MacBooks (Pros) cannot Pwn new devices, they can only install custom firmware on already jailbroken ones.

If you already JB'd your phone with 2.1 you don't need DFU mode. You can do it fine on your Unibody then.

You create the custom firmware, as usual, and then hold the homebutton as you plug it into your computer and it will go into recovery mode. This will still work. Then you can install the custom firmware. The DFU is only needed the first time around.

I have JB'd 2.1, but when 2.2 came out I just put that on stock to check it out, so now it doesn't seem to work

I compared the new MB/MBP version of Mac OS X to the latest 10.5.5 for all other machines. The new notebooks have a newer version of the MobileDevice framework. Has anyone tried replacing this with the older version from the standard 10.5.5 to see if that lets DFU mode work correctly with the computer?

I think it is more than that. I believe they modified the libraries that pwnage uses to assemble the restore file, because I had to use quickpwn on my XP partition, I could not use the restore file created through mac os x on my unibody. I also had to connect it to a non unibody mac to get it to turn on.
