iPad Pro Unlock iPad with mask on sense masks are coming back soon. :( Why is it not possible ?

There would have been no reason why that feature would have been removed because there are many Asian countries where people wear masks for reasons other than Covid. This document doesn’t say anything about the feature no longer being supported. Have you tried setting up an alternate appearance with your mask?

Face ID with masks on is an iPhone-exclusive feature. "Set up an alternative appearance" opens on my M1 12.9 but when I try to do it with a mask on, it says to remove facial obstructions.
But nothing happens when I tap on it.
