Unlocked version at start?

    Heard some people here talk about wanting a unlocked version later....what do they mean with later. The 5 and 4s where also unlocked at start of launch day right?
    Whats changed about this? Anything that claims or rumors about no unlocked version?

    I believe that unlocked versions were not available in the US for a month or two. In other countries they're usually available on launch day.

    Yes, the unlocked iPhone 5 and 4S went on sale 2 months after the initial launch in the USA.

    They are available from Apple on the launch day in the UK.

    Is it possible to unlock a locked version (i.e. GSM Tmobile version) if you got the locked one to begin with? (referring to iPhone 5)

    Yes, by contacting your provider. Legal obligations vary depending on your country.
