I just read a fascinating book called UNORTHODOX by Deborah Feldman (bought it from Amazon). Its her life story - growing up in a Hasidic Jewish area in NYC until her "escape" from her life of opression. Scary that people still live like this. Reading how her family treated her and other women, I kept picturing them living decades ago but would then be jolted back to the truth - that she this happended within a decade and, obviously, still continues to today. Highly recommended to all.

    On tenterhooks
I'm not surprised, after reading about the Hasidic "ghetto" in Jerusalem.

    Even the police stay out.

Again fanatical religions beliefs leading to some members being treated as second class.
