From a NYT breaking news email:

I'm very interested to see how this plays out, what the motivations, if any, were and whether or not she was targeted.

I'm guessing she was targeted if this was indeed a 'Public Event'.

    EDIT:

    Link with further information.

    EDIT II:

Reuters is reporting that she has died.

    EDIT III:

Death reports retracted, though she is said to be in serious condition and in surgery.

    EDIT IV:

Rep. Giffords in serious condition, Judge John Roll killed.

    Disgusting.

I don't care how much you disagree with a persons political ideologies, it doesn't excuse trying to kill them. None of the US's politicians are anywhere close to being like Hitler where an assassination could be justifiable.

Another article stated the shooter was a teen-20s

The political situation is 'interesting' in Arizona to say the least.

I'm waiting for someone to misconstrue 'interesting' with 'You're glad she got shot because I assume you're a raging conservative'.

That's not going to look good; kind of scary to be honest.

It will be interesting to see what the motivation behind this was. I wonder if this is one of those "second amendment remedies" that the tea party talked about during the campaign.

Edit to add some more info: it looks like NPR is saying she didn't make it.

Scary indeed. We all know Palin meant voting those 20 out of office, so let's not go on a crazy tirade.

But, holy **** if it was indeed one of her followers who ended up doing it.......

I can't believe that no open-carry Arizonan didn't beat the gunman to the draw and prevent the whole thing from happening in the first place. ;)

    So sad and scary.

On the bright side, this should finally extinguish Sarah Palin's 15 minutes.

Yeah, vote them out by targeting them in their cross hairs. Pew pew pew.
Why does the extreme right hate America so much?

Assassinated for liberal inclinations? Sounds oddly familiar.

Are you really trying to say Palin wanted people to go out and assassinate those people?

The democrats salivate over political ammo while someone dies from a gunshot wound to the head.

Of course but those targeting icons certainly won't help things in the PR campaign if the gunman confesses to be being a Tea Party/ Palin supporter.

It's simply shameful, idiotic and unnecessary to raise the level of rhetoric to that degree.

The gunman? Though I find that to be unlikely, it would certainly be ironic. I'd have to go back and research her stance on Arizona's immigration policies.

I know right? Kinda like Pakistan. Except over there its done by the government. ;) Sorry off topic.

Yeah funny ain't it? I thought guns were for protection though! Of all the things we disagree on, we can agree on that!

    Holy ****.

    A good, if macabre, point.

I too wonder whether this person was inspired by the SarahPac target poster. There's no shortage of craziness in politics today.

I hope the rest of the jackasses in Washington are shocked back into sanity by this. Let some good come out of this poor woman's death.
