Updating external blu-ray drives

This is the installation disc that came with my generic brand "Optiarc BD ROM BC-5500S". I want to update the firmware using my mac, if possible, or if I have to find a PC then I will....

Does anyone know how to do it? The drive works great for my older Blu-ray titles, but it won't even mount a media image with newer ones.

This model gets re-branded to names such as Sony. Should I bother them?
