Subject says it all. I'm not a newbie asking obvious questions, have read all the guides and FAQs and am still v confused.

I have an unlocked original iPhone still using 1.0.2. I'd like to upgrade it to 2.0.1 or 2.0.2 and unlock it to use with any carrier. How exactly do I go about doing this?

Please ... any comments saying "read the FAQ" really don't help. If any user who has gone through the process and can walk me through, it would be welcome.

Use iPwn/WinPwn with 2.02 firmware...and unlock it through that? Not too hard.

    Hold on!

    Don't do that.

Do You know what method you used to unlock the 1.0.2 phone?

The original dev team unlock - iunlock/anysim - corrupted the phone modem so that if you update to any other version your phone will stop working!

You have to virginise the phone BEFORE updating using pwnage!

Assuming you have installer already you don't need to add it just ignore the first part!

    Same process is here: http://iphone.unlock.no/#how-to-downgrade-and-virginize-baseband

If you dont have installer then start here:----------------

    - connect your phone (ignore the itune pop up)
    - run iLiberty+
    - In iLiberty+, make sure jailbreak check mark is on. Select the installer payload and click go for it. (This will put the installer on your phone). Phone will reboot during this process.

    - When done. Run the installer. If it ask you to upgrade, ignore it.

If you already have installer start here!-------------------

    - add http://i.unlock.no to the installer sources
    - install Community sources
    - install BSD Subsystem
    - hit home button on phone so your springboard will refresh.

    - make sure the phone auto-lock is set to never.

go back into installer, go down to unlocking tools and select "the virginizer".

This will run and will take 5-10 minutes.

Hopefully, this will run right through without any errors. When done, your baseband is virginized and your are ready to upgrade.

Note: after virginization, your phone is LOCKED
