Well, if you wondered what Trump's plan to deal with ISIL/Daesh/ISIS, it's an invasion (with friends).

Sure it is small US lead force, but it is highly likely US troops where part of ground team.

"500 local US allies and coalition military advisers", with an optimistic 10 per heilo, that is at least heilos/V-22 being involved, quite a number.

I support this effort to eradicate ISIS, but it brings the US much closer to directly engaging Assad troops (intentional or accidental), and the Russians.
I also note that Trump is not talking about this.

UPDATE (ABC news), also quoted from this source. A more definitive number of troops involved:

Trump loves war. This has always been his major goal.

Hegemony is the deep state goal. This will involve the destruction of Syria as in Iraq and Libya. Qaddafi, Saddam and Al-Assad removal make it palatable to the uninformed.

The news reports suggest that the airlift took place over at least two days. Which would suggest that each helicopter could have made multiple round trips. I don't think that the US has enough V-22s and other transport helicopters in Iraq to move 500 (or more) troops in one lift.

This operation is apparently not one that was ordered, or even explicitly approved, by Trump. In a shift, his National Security team has given the military commanders in Iraq and Syria far more latitude in what operations they can undertake.

Which is fair enough provided everything goes well. But I think we need to be very wary of letting the Generals get us too closely involved in a Syrian civil war. If ISIS brings down a US helicopter and starts butchering US aircrew, there will be hell to pay.

Those families who lost children in the Iraq and Afghanistan war who voted for Trump, a so-called "isolationist," must be pretty peeved about him now if they've learned about this.

Obama has been landing troops on the ground and calling them advisors for the last 4 years.

And....? Was that an agreement with what I said? A repudiation? A total non sequitor?

I'd rather leave the Middle East to rot in its own filth, but if we are going to be there we better be willing to win.

    How do you define winning?

If anyone voted for him because they wanted us out of wars they weren't listening to him through the campaign.

And how do you determine who is an ISIS member and who is not? It's not like they all carry cards saying it.

During Obamas admin we had many instances where we had locations we didn't hit because they were worried about releasing carbon into the air, ISIS has to hold positions or they have nothing of value and are just a guerrilla force.

Probably an even bigger focus now, considering the state of things in Washington.

Trump needs a win ... bigly.

If he can't find one here in the U.S., it creates more incentive to seek it overseas.

You didn't answer the question, how do you determine who is an ISIS member and who is a civilian?

    1) If they have any type of strength at all they will have assets on the ground that we can target.

    2) If they use any type of electronic equipment then the NSA/CIA is going to know where they are.

There is no escape now, Obama left the vacuum that caused ISIS to explode, they won't be contained to their own land. These people want a world wide caliphate.

Ok, so once we take out their land holdings then you will consider them all dead. That would be about where we were in Iraq when Bush gave his mission accomplished speech. If we finish removing ISIS from Mosul and Raqqa how do we leave after achieving victory? We weren't able to just leave Iraq after we won according to your definition.
