there is no doubt that trump's unwillingness to support democratic (small d) and ethical positions gives potential human intelligence sources less incentive to stand with America in fighting against repression.
make no mistake. the legacy of this man and his administration will take decades to overcome.

Yep. Something doesn’t sound right. In the age of Bloomberg (yes, THAT article) I took all obscure news like this with a very big grain of salt.

Spying just isn't what it used to be, like back in the days of numbers stations

So.. what is supposed to my takeaway here? That the USA has spies in iran and China? Well, obviously. Add 50 more countries to that list...or is that someone(s) used this as a marketing ploy that we might fall for...the CIA is many things, but generally not incompetent. Occams razor.

Just after WWII my father was in military counterintelligence (we think) for awhile and had an alias as a result (of that we are certain). He told us a story of wanting to see some of East Europe before the Iron Curtain fell. He used his alias in Prague to register at a hotel and the next morning when checking out he discovered that somebody had crossed out the alias and written his real name, rank, unit, date of birth and place of birth in the register instead. Suffice it to say that was the end of his clandestine days. The point is, nothing, absolutely nothing, stays secret for long, yet people volunteer to be spies anyway. It blows my mind given the risks.

If the OP's story is true, it is sad so many lost their lives.
