I read that on the Independent, but I can't find it in American news sites yet.

I'm not at all knowledgeable in this area but isn't the Falcon a French executive type plane.

It is supposed t be a small transport plane, not the Fighting Falcon. At least according to the Independent

    The F-16 is a one-seater.

My bad. I does appear that it has to be a much bigger plane than the F-16.

Strange that a transport carrying "5 senior generals" would be flying without some sort of escort.

There are also a couple two seater F-16's... but I don't think those could fit 8 people either....

The news on BBC Radio 5 just reported that Iranian state media has said that the plane was Hungarian, and not American.

The BBC ought to have known to begin with that the initial intelligence was faulty, it just wouldn't have made sense. Five senior American generals on an unarmed and unescorted plane over enemy (well, close enough to enemies) territory for no apparent reason? Right...

I agree, although it was originally a Reuters story that the BBC repeated before confirming the facts with Iran/USA.

First thing I said to myself when I heard this on the teevee this mornin' was "Guys and gals, that just doesn't sound right. You betcha there'd be an escort and a half for an US fighter plane or any high-level US military". Then I winked at the teevee and said "I bet the Maverick would fix those Eye-ranians though. Fix 'em good by golly".

I should have clarified further, the current model, the only one in service for the US, is a one-seater.

Uh, yeah... look up. ;) Iran actually were the ones to correct this it seems. mpshay, what would they have to gain if it was a US plane? You think they want us to go to war with them? As if we actually could at this point thanks to still being stuck in Iraq, the 'stans, and a little economic crisis at the moment.
