iPod touch Using AOL Mail on iPod Touch

I haven't bought one yet, but played with a couple at two different stores. My main reason for possibly choosing this one over other DAPs is the wi-fi. But when I tried accessing my AOL mail, the home screen was fine, but once I signed in the screen was broken up with weird symbols. It did this at both stores so I know this wasn't a glitch. Does anyone know if this is due to a setting that can be changed on the ipod or not? Is it true that you can't send e-mail too? This could be a deal breaker for me. I was willing to forego the lack of bluetooth, but this may change my decision to buy one.
