Vega 20 handle large SolidWorks assemblies?

depends of your expectations, it's not a fully Pro card like for example Radeon Pro WX or NVIDIA Quadro, so performance will be not amazing, if you really need a machine to do professional workload this type, you should look elsewhere

If you use the drivers from bootcampdrivers.com you’ll get better performance. It should give you similar performance to an nvidia 1050 or so I’m told.

NVIDIA 1050 it's not a professional GPU for this type of workload, it has poor performance in solidworks

I also bought it (it s in the mail) for the bump in SW performance.
In Specview perf 12 it achieved 85fps. (bootcamp I guess)
Macbook pro Vega 20 trumps GTX 1050 in most pro 3d apps especially in SolidWorks, CATIA and Siemens NX.

it's not a card for serious job, even desktop 1080Ti is weak also drivers aren't certified, so it's no go for this kind of money

for this amount of money you can get PC laptop with powerful mobile quadro and scores CAD/CAM will be much better, nobody serious buying MBP for CAD/CAM

I have a desktop and a laptop computer at work with a quadro p5000 on the desktop and mobile quadro m4000 on the HP laptop.
I have however, and in many occasions worked on many smaller modeling projects at home on my 2014 MacBook pro with a GTX 750m. I have designed a whole stormtrooper helmet in SW (in parallels too) and 3d printed it on a Zortrax, all with software run on this laptop.

Now my point was, not only does the vega 20 completely smokes the GTX 1050, but it should be fairly adequate for most modeling operations (unless you are designing a very complex assembly with hundreds of parts)
