Hi guys!

I have a Mac Pro 5,1 with a Vega Frontier Edition card running Mojave. I am looking to buy this 5k LG monitor (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1382968-REG/lg_34wk95u_34_nano_ips.html) (LG 34WK95U-W 34" 21:9 UltraWide 5K Nano IPS Monitor) and run it connected with Displayport 1.4 on Mac OS X Mojave. Will it run at the native 5k resolution with DisplayPort connection or will 5k only work when connect through Thunderbolt 3?

Thanks!

Rob

It is not the ‘normal’ 5K . It is substantially shorter which means DisplayPort v1.2 will work ( and up so v1.4 does too at 30-bit color which monitor approximates ) .

User manual says ( page 24 ) HDMI won’t help but Thunderbolt and DisplayPort do. https://www.lg.com/us/support/product/lg-34WK95U-W.AUS

Matches up ....

“... You can take advantage of the display’s native resolution by utilizing DisplayPort 1.2 or higher. HDMI 2.0 connections, however, are capped at a 4K resolution of 3840×2160, with unsightly pillar-boxing on both sides of the picture. The default resolution for HDMI 2.0 connections is 3440×1440, which fills the entire display, but is an obvious downgrade on display sharpness. ...”

I am leaning toward the same display. I had a closer look at this display in the store. What is your user case, could you elaborate for what you do use it for? I was looking for alternatives because the plastic stand did not make a real great impression on me. The only display that keeps my attention is this super high quality monitor from Alienware with a somewhat lower resolution.

I have this monitor running off of DisplayPort on my Mac Pro 5,1 and Radeon 7950.

It's a nice monitor.

My question is has ANYONE figured out how to get it to wake from sleep consistently without a minute or so of prodding via the trackpad/keyboard? That has become very annoying.
