Wow, so basically this Cheney was replaced by an alien body double Cheney at some later time?
Nah, he's just being a politician.
more to the point, the invasion was politically expedient. which means that all the noise that cheney made about terrorism, WMDs, saving the iraqi people, spreading democracy, et. al. was a giant, steaming pile of crap.
but we all knew that anyway, didn't we?
back in 1994 I am quoted as saying "Girls have cooties."
Now I am spending the rest of my life trying to find a girl.
God I must be such a hypocrite.
thinking back... thinking back...
yes, i'm quite sure that's the most useless analogy i've heard all year.
Nail, meet hammer. These guys used US military lives to further their lust for power and revenge. And as a nice little side benefit, that have aided our enemies, particularly Iran, more than any illegal arms sales ever could.
Millions of lives altered forever, for political expediency.
Cheney wasn't six years old in 1994. You were.
So if Cheney didn't want to go into Iraq, do you think Bush did? I always assumed Cheney was the idea-guy, and that Bush, for some inexplicable reason, was picked as the figure head.
I think the point is that Dick Cheney and Integrity are complete strangers.
Of course Bush did. He viewed war presidents as invariably strong and beloved, and he wanted revenge. After all, "... that mother****** tried to take out my dad."
And of course, Very Wise Men came and told him that it would be easy.
I had not heard that, although I already had plenty of reasons to dislike Bush's policies and the war. This is just one more piece of heart-breaking, lack of conscience statements to add to the pile.
I just can't believe we have to wait till the next election.
Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner.
Jesus. Cheney's quotes from the interview make plain that he understood what would happen in Iraq. While it hasn't happened exactly as he foretold, it's pretty close. Operative word: quagmire.
So he/they knew exactly what was in store, and they go anyway? swingerofbirch hit the nail on the head - heart breaking.
Rest assured that even this crystal-clear evidence of Cheney's ulterior motivations will be "explained" to us via some idiotic dog-ate-my-homework excuse that die-hard Republicans will swallow whole.
I think we already have. It's like, you know, cooties.
I've heard it's because 9/11 changed everything. Because we all know Saddam was responsible for 9/11. Plus he had WMDs in 2003, but not in '94. Nor was he our buddy when he did all those things he was hanged for. Besides, no one could have predicted the current problems, of which there are none. Unlike what would have happened in '94, which would have been a disaster, things are going great now.
Or, you know, the exact opposite.
Or, apparently, everyone (except for John Kerry of course) can completely change their mind about something, even when it comes to the same exact situation where nothing has really changed and the outcome is the same.
That's right we couldn't go in there ALONE!
They needed to find a way to get allied support,
by any means possible.
