VLC not being recognized

Why is it that with this latest OS that VLC keeps getting "reset"?

I have used it as my standard video player for years because it is much more versatile than anything Apple has ever offered. Now every week it seems to reset as if I have never opened the app. No updates, no changes, same files, just suddenly isn't the default app. I have to go to the file, get info, pick VLC, and then make it for all files of that extension. Then when I launch the movie it asks me "you've never opened this app, is this ok?" which is a ***** lie since I've been using it for years. Anyone know what is going on?

maybe uninstall/reinstall? and make sure it's the latest (here, it's 3.0.3); works fine for me, am using it a lot...

I've tried the re-install and also have the latest 3.0.3 version. Still keeps happening, so weird

Uninstall it. Remove all configuration and supporting files. Download a fresh copy from the developer’s website.
Reinstall and try again.

It is not an answer to your question but yet shows a certain similarity in one single point.
I have "unrared" rar packed apps for years with UnrarX and yet... every time I want to do it, I am asked if I want to use it since "it is the first time I open that app"
