I am able to operate the voice control feature on my Ipod Touch 3g with the included headphones with microphone. However, I am not able to use the voice control feature with a different microphone I have with a 3.5 plug. My goal is to be able to operate my Ipod touch with the voice control while driving. I do not like leaving the headphones dangling out of the jack in the car. I purchased an RCA input cable for my Pioneer car stereo. I am going to purchase a cable that goes from the Ipod dock connector to RCA for my music output. I am hoping to find a microphone which will work in the 3.5 jack to use the voice control feature. In my manual it says the voice control "Requires included headset or compatible accessory with microphone." What is a compatible accessory with microphone? I have googled a lot and haven't found any options other than headsets with a microphone. Are there not any other options out on the market yet? I really like the potential of operating the Ipod with voice commands while driving, however, I haven't figured out how it would work yet. I am open to any input, so please respond if you have heard of any options :) Thank you !

I think I am going to look into trying to find a 3.5 plug adapter that has male/female ends with a mic on it. That way I would have the mic and output to my car speakers on the 3.5 jack and could use the ipod connector for power. I found this review on the following webisite.

"And here\'s a bonus that isn\'t in the manual: On the iPhone 3GS upgraded with OS 3.1, pressing the track control button for 3 seconds gives access to the iPhone\'s full voice commands, so I can tell it to jump to any song, album, or artist, again without touching the phone. Super!"

This product is sold right at radio shack so I might try it and return it if it doesn't work.

Some other similiar products that I haven't found any info on if they would work or not are:

http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/smarttalk
http://scosche.com/products/sfID1/210/sfID2/321/productID/1726

Thanks for the info on the thumb tack. I like the size a lot and may get it for voice memos.

Both of those are just mikes. There's no control switch to evoke voice control, which -- is there even a way to start voice control directly from the ipod? Even if there is, my guess is that would kinda defeat the purpose of having voice control in the first place, wouldn't it?

Smarttalk has mike but no volume control. Sosche has volume control but no mike. They both do invoke voice control, although there is no point in doing that with the Sosche as you can't actually issue any commands. The last product appears to have both volume control and mike -- I'd be very interested in that, thanks for the link!

I was just trying to find a Mic - i don't have one (a mic), so i have never USED Voice Memo or controls before. :D Which isn't true, i have it on my Honda Van. It's faster to glance down and change what i want myself..... "XM 8", turns into, "XM 200" most times....

Can you program the "double click" the home button to activate them? I use that when driving to hit next on shuffle. I don't have to look at it much that way.

But i really do NEED a mic because i have some stuff i need to record for some flashcards! I need to order a case from Switch Easy for my DD, so maybe i can throw a thumbtack on there too.
