Volume gets low when battery is low?

My iPhone was at 5 percent and. Noticed the slider and clicker noise were lower than usual. So when I got home and started charging it I though at at least 50 percent that it would go back to normal but didn't. A restart made it go back to normal. Is it because battery was dying? Has it always been like this. Only realized after it got low percentage

Can anyone confirm it happens when battery is low?

I don't want to get a warning for bumping this but I feel it keeps getting moved to bottom of the page
