This is for 3G users only. 3GS does not have a problem.

    Okay... let's begin.

    Open Mail (I'll wait)
Okay, now make sure you're in your Inbox
Now, close Mail (hit the home button)
Open Mail again (did you notice your icons not flying away smoothly?)
Now, turn Mail on it's side (go into landscape)
While you're still holding your iPhone sideways, close Mail again (home button obviously)
Now open Mail again (notice the icons fly away smoothly)

Would you like the smoother animation all the time? If you do... follow the instructions below:

    1. Jailbreak your iPhone if you're not already jailbroken
    2. Use PhoneView or DiskAid to access the file System
    3. Browse to var/mobile/Library/Caches
    4. Delete the folder called "Snapshots"
    5. Create a new folder on your Mac Desktop called "Snapshots"
    6. Drag the folder you just made to /var/mobile/Library/Caches on your iPhone drive

The reason for this is because the folder you created on your Mac does not have the correct folder permissions for the iPhone to write those cache files to it. Without the cache files, you don't get a launch preview in Mail, Safari and Notes. It's completely harmless and works like a charm. Try it out!

If you want the old style back, just delete the "Snapshots" folder from your iPhone and the iPhone will automatically make a new one when Mail, Notes or Safari is launched again.

It's not much, but at least it's a tiny step forward to making your iPhone visuals appear a little better. Thank you.

    Bravo.

I don't have a 3G to test it out but if you finally found something that makes you more happy with 3.0 then we're all happy.

No. They were smooth every time I tried it.

EDIT: Or, I should say: If I have no idea what you mean and I'm describing it wrong, I can certainly say that it looks the same when I did the landscape thing.

So no matter what it looks like, it looks the same way when I did it landscape. So no, I don't know what you're talking about or trying to fix here.

Reboot is not required. Just launch Safari, Mail or Notes.

Speaking of Notes, with this trick, you can finally tell when Notes is actually running and not just a splash screen. This is because the Notes page will be blank until it's done loading.

You're welcome. Did you notice any difference at all? People seem to like to call me crazy a lot, but I know what I see and I know when I don't like something.

It's kinda weird that I have to jailbreak my iPhone to get it to perform the way it should... hmm..

Strange... Mine was doing the fly away animation every time except the first time it just popped right up. So I guess I'm not really having this issue.

So are you running 3.X now? :D

The thing is... yeah, it will stutter a bit on the first one, then you use some other apps and do some more things... then when you open it again, it will stutter again.

Using my trick makes it launch smooth every time. That was the point.

I've downgraded back to 2.2.1 again. I just like it better.

Giving it a shot, can't hurt anything...

Okay, I did it. Didn't see much if any difference on the 3G. I checked to make sure and it is not creating snapshots to the new folder. I'll keep it this way for a while and change it back. I should quickly notice if it "slows down" or gets "less smooth".

I have a 3gs, so no need, but I know if you're posting this claiming it fixes the problem that's been plaguing you forever, and with your honed skill in noticing minute differences, must work and people jut can't tell. (I know. I've looked at two pictures for 20 minutes where you claim there are differences only to claim there no real difference, right before noticing it myself).

If you have an iPhone 3GS then you have nothing to worry about. Relax. This tutorial is only for non-3GS owners who suffer from animation performance decrease from 3.x.

What picture did you stare at for 20 minutes.
