I upgraded to Fusion 8.0 today and ran into a nasty bug where it crashes hard (freezes the whole Mac sometimes) if you boot into a virtual machine with hardware version 12 on a Mac using the Nvidia web driver. Solution is to either disable 3D acceleration in hardware version 12 or roll back to virtual hardware version 11.

Sucks because I was looking forward to D3D10 and OpenGL 3.3 support in the new Fusion. Oh well... Filed a bug report / support request with VMWare.

Appears to be an issue with hardware version 11 w/ 3D Acceleration as well. It boots and runs okay for the most part, but eventually the VM crashes and has to be restarted.

Isn't it still in Beta? I saw a demo presentation by BMD a couple of days ago that frequently crashed the system (Mac) when GPU accelerated effects were applied.

Officially released last week.

There have been some posts in the VMWare Communities, other people with Kepler/Maxwell cards are having the same issue, even if they're using the native OS X drivers.

Problem persists in the 8.0.2 update. I tested with the latest Nvidia web drivers (346.03.03f02).

Release notes can be found at: http://pubs.vmware.com/Release_Notes/en/fusion/8/fusion-802-release-notes.html
