Was outrage over AIG bonuses comparable to lynchings?

The 0.01% are showing signs of actually going off the deep end. I'm really not sure what kind of pathology to label this as:

    -- Robert Benmosche, AIG

    http://www.cjr.org/the_audit/wsj_buries_the_lead_deep_on_ai.php

I guess he was just trying to follow up on what Charlie Munger said, but, he missed the point, such as it was:

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-09-20/berkshire-s-munger-says-cash-strapped-should-suck-it-in-not-get-bailout.html

Although Munger said it clumsily, he was trying to make the point that the banks as institutions needed to be rescued for the benefit of all.

Not everyone thinks it was done well, of course:

But, at least we all knew why we were paying the hostage takers. Benmoche missed the point, though. Apparently he thinks he and his cronies were entitled to taxpayer largesse.

Paul Krugman and many others are picking this up -- as they should:

Decades ago in the Deep South, lynchings were always done by impoverished and oppressed people looking for social or economic freedom, against minority powerful elites who controlled the wealth and the machinery of government. Countless numbers of those elites suffered at the hands of lynch mobs.

    So yeah, perfect analogy.

    They did not get lynched.

They did not get anything, except a fat bonus.

Benmosche is an ethnic Lithuanian Jew born in Brooklyn, so when he says
"... to stir public anger, to get everybody out there with their pitch forks and their hangman nooses, and all that-sort of like what we did in the Deep South ..."
it kinda looks/sounds odd. Most of us would choose our words differently.
