iPad Washed out colours

I have an Air 2, set up from new on ios 11. One thing i've noticed, when the screen is about to go to sleep as it dims, press it to keep it open. The colours are then all washed out and look terrible. Does anyone else have this?

I think the colours are over saturated on my iPhone 6. It's more difficult to see details in blacks and dark colours with iOS 11.

they seem to go back to normal when it goes to sleep and you dont try and keep it open.
