I recently purchased an iMAC thinking i would be able to transfer all my media to it and delete from my iPhone. I began deleting from my iPhone and also lost them on my computer too.
can anyone give me a CHEAP if not free solution? lmao

Thanks in advance x

When you transfer them to your mac if you get them to add to your photos app it will ask you wether you want them deleted from your phone. If you are just using the cloud for this what you do on one affects them all if you plug your phone into your mac you will have more options.

You are using iCloud Photos or My Photo Stream. You don't want to do that. I also recommend not using the Photos app.

thanks to everyone who has replied...Im still having trouble though. i have re-connected my phone after signing out of iCloud to get rid of photos from my phone. i created an 'untitled folder' on my desktop, i have dragged and dropped 994 photos here but only 200 or so are pasting. am i doing something wrong?

when i sign back in will they all re-appear?

Don't know if I'm missing the point, but just export the photos from Photos on your Mac to another folder before you delete them on your phone!

I feel your frustration on this. I wish it would just backup the photos into the cloud and my mac without me having to plug in the phone and move the photos to another folder all the time.

Google photos app does a great job of this. It syncs with my mac and google drive and I can delete them from the iphone and still have access to them from google drive, my mac and iphone.

I was going to suggest Google Photos also. Free to use with unlimited storage and you can keep everything there and off your actual phone memory.

If you uncheck PhotoStream and iCloud Photo library in Photo preferences, I believe you can download your photos to your iMac and delete them from your phone without fear of deleting anything you want to keep

Wish I could say Airdrop works flawlessly - it works between my iPhone and iPad but can't get either to work with the iMac in either direction. iMac 2014 Retina 5k.
