Just ran the developer security update to 10.14.6 (18G5006). Now in Safari, WebKit is crashing in an endless loop. Any tab I attempt to load a page in says "This page was reloaded because a problem occurred" at the top repeatedly, and the CrashReporter dialog comes up.

Is anyone else having this issue? If so, would Apple be aware if we're submitting the crash reports?

If not, what's the fix?

Note: I've disabled all extensions, and cleared history with same results.

Edit: Also have tried a clean user, and that works. so it appears to be user specific. so I've deleted all the usual cache culprits (in ~/Caches/ & ~/Preferences/) but still crashing the same way.

portion of crash log:

Code:
Application Specific Information:
abort() called
rdar://problem/28724618 Couldn't create connection object
<rdar://problem/28724618> Process unable to create connection because the sandbox denied the right to lookup com.apple.coreservices.launchservicesd and so this process cannot talk to launchservicesd.
XPC_ERROR_CONNECTION_INVALID from launchservice
_RegisterApplication(), unable to get application ASN from launchservicesd, and this application requires an ASN, so aborting. error=#-1.

edit: apparently there are many similar reports on apple discussions.

The Security Update that updates Mojave to 10.14.6 (18G5006) prevents WebKit processes from executing, meaning anything that uses WebKit (Safari, Mail, iTunes) will fail attempting to show HTML content.

However, installing the latest version of Safari Technology Preview (Release 104) will allow that version and that version onlyof Safari to run, as it includes a newer revision of WebKit.

In summary:

  • The sandbox will not allow any version of WebKit 14609 to launch, including the versions shipped with the stock version of Safari (13.1) or the Safari 13.1.1 beta (an update, but still an update to version 14609.)

  • WebKit version 14610, included in Safari Technology Preview Release 104, will work with Safari 13.2 (also included in Safari Technology Preview.)

  • There is presently no workaround to get Mail and iTunes to show HTML content.
