when surfing the net in mozilla i noticed a number of sites have their own custom icon next to the url in the url field instead of the default bookmark icon. does anybody know how to do this when making your own website?

hm, i cant seem to get it to work. that site just wants to sell you their design services. seems stupid to pay someone $125 to design an icon.
i used iconographer and photoshop to design an icon. i saved as windows .ico file format and uploaded the file to my root.
i tired saving as generic windows ico and windows xp ico and neither worked.
i named the file favicon.ico in case you are wondering if i titled it wrong.
any ideas on what i am doing wrong or anyone know of a good walkthrough on how to do this on a mac (all the how tos i found were for wndows users)
