Here on the northern hemisphere, it's winter, and temperatures are freezing (or should be – we had 14 °C on New Year's Day here in Germany...). Show me something warm. Interprete this in any way you want.

The contest closes at 23:59 (CET) on Friday, December 14, 2022.

Standard rules apply:

  • Do not comment, vote, react or click “like” on images prior to the winners being announced. Violators might be awarded first place, entry or not!
  • The photographs must be your own work.
  • You may only submit one photo per contest but you can point the members at the internet for a contextual bio image to illustrate your mimicry.
  • This contest runs for one week. If in doubt, check the dates in the title.
  • At the end of the week, The Judge will choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photo, providing as much feedback as possible.
  • If the Judge is unable to complete the selection within 48 hours of the deadline, then last week's 2nd place has to step in. 3rd place takes over should 2nd place be similarly unable to officiate.
  • The 1st place Winner will start a new thread with the topic/theme of their choice, and act as the Judge for that contest. (Winner has 48 hours to create a new theme, after that it defers to 2nd place).
  • Be sure to update the Contest Master List as soon as you post a new theme.
  • Contest ends on January 14th.

is there an update on this? ?
Yes. ?

Ooookay…

@TheYayAreaLiving ? Southern or eastern Asia I guess? Definitely warm. Nice picture, but unless we are talking about spiritual warmth, it doesn't really convey the concept of "warm" for me.

@akash.nu Sun, sand, blue water – I can feel the heat. I can only guess where this is, though. The Mediterranean, maybe?

@oblomow Hot air, warm colours, the sun filtering through the fabric of the balloon. Definitely warm. A slightly different crop without the trees in the upper right corner might be even better in my opinion.

@someoldguy Looks like a fun tropical adventure. The plane gives the picture an interesting framing.

@sc33n3 Tokyo in summer. From own experience, I can confirm it's warm for sure. And humid. And wet when a typhoon hits. Never been to the beach there, though. The colour grading of the film you used somewhat increases the impression of "warmth".

@Shaun Paul With the long shadows and slightly sparse greenery this doesn't look like mid summer, but more like spring, the welcome return of warmth after a freezing winter. I would have cropped out the grass in the foreground a bit, though.

@The Bad Guy That certainly looks warm and welcoming, further emphasised by the tinting of the picture. I guess you made everyone curious with the secret backstory, though…

@mollyc Like the warm haze of a late summer evening. Very atmospheric.

@katbel More summer beaches. Damn, I'm jealous… The ratio of sand to water to sky is almost perfect. And the fox really seems to enjoy itself.

@OldMacs4Me Yup, that's hot. It's certainly not easy to take a decent close-up picture of a fire without losing detail, and you definitely suceeded here.

@squawk7000 Summer shenanigans. Perfectly timed action shot of that kid backflipping in the sea, nicely contrasted by the cerulean blue of the sea.

@tizeye Yum. Summer and barbecue go hand in hand, and that certainly looks tasty. The meaty side is a little bit dark (on my screen at least), though, so the vegetables somewhat dominate the picture.

@rx7dude An empty road stretching off in the distance of the American south-west (I guess?). A picture that is almost iconic for sweltering heat.

@StrollerEd Another summer beach holiday. You really are all trying to torture me, aren't you? The parasols give this picture an interesting structure.

@Laird Knox ? I hope that temple was build for the purpose of being burned down in some ritual? An absolutely striking picture.

@thirsty_monk A nice steaming cup of a warm beverage on a freezing winter day. A very beautifully arranged picture in its simplicity.

Lots of great entries, so the choice isn't easy.

3rd place: a tie between @mollyc and @squawk7000 whose picture convey two very different impressions of a fun, warm summer day.

2nd place: @thirsty_monk for his simple, but very fitting picture.

1st place: @Laird Knox, since his picture really leaves an impression with its destructive beauty of the fire consuming that temple.

If you don't mind, I'm off to planning my summer vacation now…
