I originally thought this was a fault and sent back the first iPhone I got. The replacement does the same thing. If you shine a bright light at the screen towards the top, it will create this orange dot on the display that looks like a faulty display or group of pixels. It can also create a horizontal line below the dynamic island.

I'm assuming this is something to do with light passing through the dynamic island and not a fault but if there is anyone here that this DOESN'T happen to then please let me know as I will send it back again.

It's normal. There is a thread about this, that's where the proximity sensor sits from what I read.
