Well, it's my own fault, but I'm done with 4.2 beta's until the GM comes out

As a developer, I had been using 4.2 beta since beta 1. I took beta 1 off cause it was terrible, but beta 2 i lasted the whole cycle, and beta 3 up until yesterday.

It's my own fault cause I put the beta on my only iPad, but yesterday as I was making an important phone call I opened up notes. I wrote down the information and hit the home button. In one minute, I opened up notes again, and guess what? The note was gone! I can not deal with bugs like that when I'm trying to use the machine as a production device.

That being said, I love 4.2, I miss it very much and I can not wait till it comes out of beta and goes GM.

Anyhow, it's just me ranting. Anyone else give up on the beta's so far?

No. It has it's bugs for sure but it beats 3.2 by a mile. So far I haven't had an app that I couldn't live with out bug out on me. It's things like Netflix, games and even icab. I can deal with those. Though I'd admit I liked beta 2 more than beta 3.

I don't imagine there'll be too many more betas.

Haha, I'm still using Beta 1. What was so terrible with it? Perhaps I should update to Beta 4 when its released?

Beta 1 was terrible for me. I lost my WiFi all the time. It was insane. I had to get rid of it.

You know what I do notice though? 3.2.2 battery life has been far better then any of the 4.2 beta's. That's not to say 4.2 battery life won't be good, just not as good as 3.2.2. I don't have any real world tests except for my own observations. But normally I'd be at 94% on 4.2 beta and i'm still at 99% on 3.2.2.

I want to go to Beta 4 but I can't risk having some ridiculous bug crop up at the most inopportune time.

Ah I see, I've not had that problem; I think I will update to B4 though and see if its much better.

I ended up reverting to beta 2 after I initially updated to beta 3. For me ibooks being broken was the deal breaker.

Beta 2 is serving me just fine though. And it absolutely is miles better than 3.2.2.

I do agree that I love the multitasking, unified inbox, and smoother gameplay of certain games (Skee-Ball HD), but as hcho3 says, a beta is a beta it's no more. So as much as I would love to run 4.2, when bugs creep up at inopportune times, I just can't do it.

Beta 1 wasn't great, but 2 worked great. So does 3. No complaints from me.

Hi Everyone, how does 4.2 run on the 256MB RAM G1 iPad? Any hit in speed or other comments?

Some have speculated that the G2 iPad will double the RAM. Others have said the next iOS will need that extra RAM. Just wondering if these guys found that to be true.

Nah, don't worry about that. 4.2 runs awesomely well. Multitasking was great. Like I said, I just had small stupid bugs that prevent it from being used as a production machine. Notes being my main issue. But programs ran fine. Like I said, Skee-ball hd runs so much better in 4.2 then 3.2.2.

Thanks for reply melman, good to know.

The only other reason I might wait for G2 iPad would be for the camera for Skype. Although the iPod Touch has the front facing camera now yet Skype is not supported. :(

I have encountered the same issue with beta 3--when I exit the notes app, the data is not always saved. I will probably look into other apps that I can use as a substitute until the final is out. I do not want to go back to 3.2.

Never had problems with the last beta, except for minor apps crashes.
Anyway if I had to use my iPad as a productive device, I wouldn't use 4.2 until the official release.

Absolutely, given they have been releasing them every 2 weeks (ish) there "SHOULD" be another one this Tues/Weds .... although given my track record with betting maybe not!
