Hi, I cannot believe it, I've read about it, heard about it but NEVER thought it would happen to me but it did. *sigh* My iPod got submerged in water. I let it sit for a couple of days and just turned it on this morning. Lo and behold, it worked with the exception of the Wi-Fi signal. When I go into settings, it is greyed out. Any advice?

Thanks,
38RR

Water damage will do that to an iPod touch. It's possible your wifi is toast. I would have given it a week in rice then taken it out, cooked the rice, and hoped for the best.

Ah well, look on the bright side - September will be upon us shortly, and the 3rd gen ipod touch will soon be out.

Turn it off and sit it in a bowl of rice for 48hours

(Completely cover the itouch with loads of rice in the center of the bowl)

The rice sucks any moisture out of the itouch , i dropped down my itouch in my toilet and did this and it worked !

You should have left it off... the second you turned it on, with water touching the WiFi chip, it killed your WiFi. :/

Well, on the bright side, it sounds like the perfect excuse to wait patiently for September and the new iPod touch! You have now just been inadvertently added to the "in the market" crowd. lol.

But that sucks either way. I've been so fearful of ever dropping my iPhone in water, that I'll never take it out of my pocket for any reason around any open water. And if I go to a pool, the phone stays in the car.

Thanks for the help. I'm bummed about it. Loved that iPod and only had it for 7 months. :(

I went on splash mountain at Disneyland yesterday and accidently left it in my pocket then stupidly tried to turn it on right away and fried it. Ah well. September is on the way.

you should stick it in a box of rice for 24-48 more hours.

the same thing happened to my itouch,
i dropped it in the toilet monday morning & now its friday afternoon
& it still doesnt work :/
its been in a bowl full of rice since then.
anything else i could do?

Same thing happened to my son's iTouch. Everything works except the wireless is greyed out. Besides the rice trick is there any way to repair / replace the wireless components?

usually the best way to remove water is to pat the device down, take the device apart (battery out ect)(can't for the iPod Touch) and leave the device under a hot lamp on a towel for a day or two or longer.
