What’s up with copy/paste?

For a while, I don’t remember when, maybe iOS 6, possibly 7, copy paste worked more or less flawlessly.

But at some point, highlighting text became an exercise in frustration and it’s never been corrected.

Am I the only one who finds selecting text awkward and jumpy, and sometimes even impossible?

Yeah, I run into that here and there. It never really worked perfectly for me as I recall from iPhone OS 3 days even, but it did become a little less reliable since iOS 7 or so.

I think it’s least in part an OS issue since iOS 7-ish (so something done to WebKit around then) and at least in part something to do with the complexity of web pages over the last few years. They don’t break down as nicely into neat, simple html as they used to.

It’s one of my biggest peeves with iOS over many years at this point. Quite frustrating when you’re trying to pull some text from a page and you just can’t quite get there.
