If you ever wondered what it's like to have your 12" retina Macbook is run over by some cars, I got to experience it this morning. I accidentally left my computer in a sleeve on the roof of my car and didn't realize it until I got to work, about 12 miles away. I found the computer in the case about 2 miles from our house. It probably flew off the roof when I hit 55 mph.

Took it to the Apple Store and it will be 3-5 business days and $755+tax for out of warranty Tier 4 repair/replacement. I was debating if I should just wait for the Skylake version, but I use the Macbook everyday.

Oh dear. It looks like it has indeed taken some hard knocks...

Not under warranty? ;)
It would have been covered under my Amex Platinum purchase protection plan for 90 days/$10k/$50k per year, but I bought it used from eBay for $1200 instead of $1599 and paid with PayPal.

at least you're getting it fixed. I know far too many people who still walk around and use their iPhones with cracked screens

Out of curiosity did it still turn on? I've seen some older threads with similar levels of damage to laptops where they did show some signs of life.

Yes it still turned on and I could see the cursor responding to the trackpad. I didn't try connecting to an external display. I have everything backed up to time machine at home.

For the life of me, I still cannot understand why Apple doesnt offer accidental damage coverage on their machines. We purchase our stuff at work through a vendor, at a slight discount, but they offer accidental damage coverage, with no deductible (and the price is comparable to AppleCare).

Hey I have another thread going here, you wanna sell the logic board ? lol

In this case a squaretrade warranty would have been best. But seriously, who puts the laptop on top of a car under any circumstances.

I guess I did. I put my folio on the roof because I forgot something in the house and was in a hurry. Then drove off. I saw it on our security cam when I got to the office.

Somewhere, right now, Jonny Ive is crying loudly with tears rolling down his cheeks.

On another note: That will buff right out. Just use a good MF cloth :)

I have to say, that doesn't look nearly as bad as I thought it would.

people will destroy them like they do with phones and send them back!

Apple do not have to compete with other OSX manufactures as there are none but Windows OEM's need to offer differentiators to other OEM's to ensure return sales or repurchases

Apple know OSX users do not swap brands as easily as Windows users so can afford to be less competitive in some areas IMO
