I just want to see if my computer is healthy and running at optimal efficiency, it will be a year old comes May.

Couple ideas just to check for problems.

Do a command-r boot to recovery and from there use Disk Utility to do a repair disk and see if that reports any disk errors.

You can also do a Apple Hardware Test to check for hardware issues.

Beyond that, not really anything else you can do.

I use TechTool Pro. It runs a series of tests on various components of your computer (Not just your hard drive) and reports the results. It's a fairly comprehensive app at a fairly decent price.
