I think it safe to assume that many of you from this forum who are purchasing an iPad 2 already have the first gen. And some of you (myself included) who have the first gen are skipping this update but will definitely be getting the next. But have any of you put any thought into what you will do with your superceeded hardware? Will you sell it to offset the cost of upgrading? Use it as the centre of a home media set-up? Pass it on to someone less fortunate? Eat it?

Fill out the quick poll and sound off with your thoughts.

I just bought a 64gb wifi brand new in box $400. I plan on using it till iPad 3 then selling for $300-350 or even just giving it to my younger sisters.

"Other":

I will use my iPad gen 1 as a media control centre. Nice way to control iTunes, internet radio and so on. Shouldn't be too hard either with an ever increasing number of Airplay capable Home Theatre Receivers becoming available.

I don't need to sell my first gen, as finances are good at the moment, so I'm keeping it for nostalgia(as it's the first, game-changer), direct comparisons(to remind me how far we've come), my 'guest' or 'spare' for visitors to use and it'll also be my 'Out & about' iPad.

"out and about" ipad? Aren't all ipads meant to go out and about? Why not get a desktop if it doesn't go anywhere? Just curious.

I guess I would have to choose other. I'm keeping my old ipad since I have zero reason to upgrade.

Since I only had my 64GB 3G iPad for two weeks I will be keeping it until iPad 3 comes out. Depending on the Specs I can't say if I will sell to upgrade.

I now have a 64gb 3g verizon. I passed my old 64gb 3g to my wife and son. It's hard having one ipad in a house with 3 people especially when my son always wants to play games on it and my wife wants the surf the internet on the couch. I would have sold it but I don't think I can stomach selling it for less than $500 when I paid over $850 new for it last year.

My plan was to keep both, but after using iPad 2 I might let it go to my oldest nephew so I can load it up with apps and maintain it for him.

I saw a 64 gb wifi go for $400 shipped on eBay so selling it might be out the question.
With the right apps on it, it's worth way more than that.

Sold my 16gb 3g last friday for 420. Bought my Best Buy ticket and now im playing the waiting game.

It is not worth anything more based on the apps you have on it. As soon as the new owner syncs with their computer, those apps will be erased because they are not authorized to use them.

If you are within your 14 day return period, you can just swap it out for an iPad 2. But since there are no iPad 2s available, i'd return it, then order an iPad 2 from the online store.

Surprised that I am one of the few (literally as I am 1 of 2 people at the time I voted) that saves them for out-and-about and to keep at home

I did this for all my old iPhones and was happy I did as 1 phone broke and I took the sim card out and put it into the old phone and it worked perfect until the new replacement came.

If I needed the money BADLY, yes...I would sell.

One iPad was just never enough at our house so my husband gets the iPad 1 and I got the upgrade to iPad 2.

sold it to my cousin.. got a little lower than if I went through CL/ebay but it was much less of a hassle.

I sold my iPad 3G 32GB for $480 on Saturday. I'm getting the same version of the iPad 2 which will now cost me a much more reasonable $250.
