Just wondering what brand/model the 5400RPM drive that apple's using these days.
13'' had a hitachi and the 15'' had a seagate. I had the two base models.
In my stock 13" 2.4 is a Seagate Momentus Model: ST9250315ASG
I believe it is a Hitachi, probably the basic model, although for some reason mine has a Fujitsu drive that came with it.
EDIT: Ha, it appears that there really isn't a whole lot of consistency
my 15" i7 came with a 500GB/5400 toshiba.
15" i7 HR AG - Hitachi HTS545050B9SA02
Both of my i7 15" machines came with a Hitachi 5K500-B.
my 15 in 2.4 i5 came with a 320 gb seagate
Sisters 2.4GHz 13" had a Seagate.
My 15" i5 (2.4Ghz) came with a 320GB Hitachi.
Looking around the Apple store I noticed all the drives coming up at SATA 1.5 not 3.0 speeds.
It's the controller in these MBPs; it supplies the speed needed by the device.
My stock drive (5400rpm) is a Hitachi.
Apparently, from what I read, this is an "Apple Stock HD" thing.
They are ppurely capable of SATA300
15" i7 500 GB 5400 RPM was Hitachi.
Same one in my 13" 2.4, too.
My 15" i5 came with a 320GB Toshiba MK3255GSXF
Thanks for the replies; debating what HD to replace the stock 5400 with (already have a enclosure coming to slap the stock HD in). Right now I'm leaning towards the WD Scorpio Blue 5400/500GB or the WD Scorpio Black 7200/320GB.
The Scorpio Black is noticeably noisy I upgraded my stock HDD with a Hitachi TravelStar 500GB 7200rpm and very happy with it.
I upgraded to a Hitachi Travelstar 320gb 7200rpm drive. I converted the stock drive to a Time Machine backup.
