What default browser and mail apps will you use? I'm fine with Safari on iOS but for some reason I just hate it on Mac. I am a Chrome user normally but am thinking of moving the Edge as it's Chromium but with nicer tracking prevention. So I may switch to Edge on iOS.

As for Mail, I'm a Mail app user that's reasonably happy with the stock Mail client. Are there others that you would recommend?

What combination will you use?

Edge and Outlook. Is this already available on the Beta? Been trying to look for this option but haven't found it.

nope, developers need to update the app, from what I saw on the Apple Dev forums.

Currently I am using Mail.app and Safari and I don't think I will change the defaults in iOS 14. If Outlook gets some features I really miss, I would maybe switch to Outlook, but for the moment I do not see any apps that are better for my needs.

I do wish they'd let you change the default messaging app though. Everyone here uses WhatsApp.
Apple users that need to communicate with Android users will probably use WhatsApp. I prefer using iMessage wherever possible, and I use WhatsApp for all my Android contacts..I think that this is the case for most Apple users.

So defaults for me would be gmail, then outlook and then mail as far as email goes. And this because each one is separated for the particular type of work I do. It isn't like I really enjoy using one over the other, each has its own pluses and minuses. But i'd put gmail first just because that is the one I use the most for development work. As far as a browser goes.. safari... its fine.

Not so much in the UK I’d say, most of my friends have iPhones but the only person I use Messages with is my dad. WhatsApp really is ingrained over here.

That said I don’t understand how you’d make it “default”? It’s not like you click any links that launch the messaging app..? Or have I just missed these?

No, you cannot make it default. iOS 14 supports changing the default browser and mail apps only.

Yes I know. But someone upthread said they wished you could change the default messaging app and I was wondering what that actually meant.

The only other app I can think of where i'd like to be able to change the default, is the camera app

Safari and Apple mail are just perfect. I’ve really adjusted to the shortcomings by blatantly ignoring the benefits of switching, and forgetting all about how my Mail notifications are very much not working properly every single day. Don’t see the big deal here.

I disagree, as you seem to be projecting your personal experience as a generalisation for the UK. I'm in the UK and it's the opposite for me, pretty much all my iOS user friends use Messages. I have 2 iOS users than use WhatsApp. With my Android using friends, there's a split between WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.

So, really, there's a mix of use cases, rather than it being all WhatsApp for everyone.

Safari and Mail.

Given the deep integration of the browser out of the box and across the ecosystem, I don't see myself ever changing that.

I'd consider other mail clients if any of them offered anything compelling beyond the functionality I already have with Mail, but I'm not seeing it. Mail is handling my iCloud account, two gmail accounts, 3 outlook accounts, and a third party account without issue, so I see no reason to change just for the sake of changing.

maybe but let’s not pretend that WhatsApp isn’t the most used messenger app in the EU, Latin America and many places in Africa. There is a huge difference between the US and the countries I just mention. Just like Asian countries use wechat and (viper? For some reason)
