What do you do when you're bored at work? I tend to ask everybody I work with if there is anything I can do for them at all. Then if they don't have something I can do I'll ask people that aren't in my department for work. Usually that gets me something to do. I'm such a model employee. Okay, actually I just e-mail my boss and tell 'em I don't have anything to do... then I sit on my bum and listen to Audiobooks or music or browse the 'net at a more rapid pace. I don't play internet games but just read stuff mostly. Sometimes I'll e-mail friends I haven't e-mailed in a while...
I hang out with the Macrumors forum crowd, at least recently. Before discovering this wonderful resource I tended to walk around and bother other people, so they're probably happy I'm now doing this.
When I am bored at work, I go to Macrumors. This is doubly nice for me because I can reduce my boredom and try to forget that I am using a PC at work all at the same time. If I am bored but dont want to keep looking at the computer I go out to the seawall and enjoy looking at Diamond head and the surfers doing their thing. (I guess living in Hawaii is good for something! )
While bored at my summer job at a local grocery store, I calculated the average productivity of the self-checkout lanes. I was curious if they do 'take away jobs from humans'. I found that since there always has to be an attendant, and the system is inherently slower than a regular checker, and most people go even slower, that it actually requires an additional 40 hours a week of worker hours to have the system in operation opposed to just having regular stations.
I take naps. When I worked in a cubicle, I would go sleep in my car. When I worked in my own office, I would lock the door and crawl under my desk so no one could see me. Now I work at home, so I just sprawl out on the couch.
I keep a tennis ball in my desk for bouncing off the ceiling when boredom strikes on a morning. On an afternoon I only have to stand up and say 'I could really murder a beer right now' and the entire office ends up in the pub. It's a surefire fix for boredom
Mainly I just surf Macrumors as well... Either that or im poluting the inneroffice chat with useless nonsense.. lol
As a professional pilot I find it hard to do the traditional things, bounce a ball, murder a beer, surf da web, but I can catch some shut eye!!!!! This summer I avg. working 1.5 days a week, thank the lord I'm salaried. I fly in 25 minutes, preflight done, so I thought I would checkin here. Now your reading it. Coffee and a dump are the alternate choices for me.
I gun paperclips at my co-worker's glass of water. She detests it, but is very competitive so we have a little war. It's amazing how good you can get with a little practice, and a lot of time.
lol we usually just twist them into caltrops, and throw them at each other, trying to get them on the seat before someone sits. it's a tad dangerous, but fun.
