Trump tweeted the following this morning:

Which is the opposite of what he said earlier this month:

I thought the border was being shut down. What happened? Now we’re sending down armed members of the military? Yeah nothing can go wrong there.

Good question. I remember everyone here saying if you thought it was a dumb idea you hated America and were siding with illegal immigrants.

It was a dumb idea and he waited. He knows his base well. If he wants open borders next week the 1/4 of Americans who support him will be talking about the merits of immigration.

That's not the first time that Mexican soldiers or federal police have intercepted U.S. soldiers working along the border and it won't be the last, largely because the border's fringes get really complicated along the Rio Grande Valley and it's easy to get lost and not know exactly where you are without GPS.

Of note, the soldiers were armed, which is why the Mexican police were so interested and while they temporarily disarmed them.

Trump apparently saw this on Fox News, and decided to make hay of it, because he knows the supporters who hang on his every tweet don't know much, and will buy into the idea that we "now sending armed soldiers."

Moreover, the whole idea that Mexico "after many years (decades)" is "meaningfully apprehending" large numbers is wrong, and ignores the whole Frontera Sur program that was started under Bush and furthered by Obama.

As the Migration Police Institute noted in 2015:

In 2017, Mexico had more than 94,000 people detained as part of a decades-long ramp up of detention facilities for immigrants under MNI that began in the 1990s. And, it's important to understand that under Mexican law, the Secretaria de Gobernación has limited powers to deport people under the country's constitution.

Anyway, Trump balked at "shutting down the border" because the Chamber of Commerce and border governors like Arizona's Doug Ducey were against it.

So he's saying democrats in congress do nothing but take money and do nothing for the US. Seems like he might be mixing metaphors, thoughts there...

There are daiquiris in a blender that are less-mixed than a Donald Trump metaphor.
