I am thinking about getting tracks from hdtracks.com but how do I play those on my iPhone or iPod touch or iPod classic?

I, myself, am an avid listener of lossless music as well. What I do is usually get a .aiff file if I can find it or simply convert .flac to .aiff or apple lossless using maxx. I then add it to my iTunes library and sync it to my iPhone. Listen using the native music app.

Have a look at Canopener it's a great versatile music app that can be tailored to your specific head/earphones and plays music in a lot of formats.
